Parked for about a week, no start charge Battery all is good.
Parked 2 days, no start charged battery no start.
    Load test battery tests ok.
    Charge battery and: no start

    Checked all connections & wiring
    Cleaned the battery Terminals
Charged the battery and Load tested.
    Replaced the Starter (NAPA)
    Replaced the solenoid (NAPA)
    Changed the Battery Fully Charged.

Turn the key, clutch pedal depressed in Neutral.
There is a noise, though not any one I've heard in the past 40 years of wrenching.
The battery (Both) then are basically discharged... without any smoke...
A 2nd twist of the key gets a weak click

    Ideas?

    Figured it out.
I had to make a Post of FTZ and look like an idiot.
Because I went out and gave it one last shot for the day and it fired right up.
at 280,000-miles the old ride just needed some attention!

Unhook the main wire to the alternator, tape it off. Charge the battery up, then start it again, let me know if it starts.

If not, and does the same thing, take a breaker bar, and see if the motor turns over by hand

It is starting up (so far) like it always has... So I don't think I need to crank it over.
I think there was an intermittent in the OE starter.
When I get some heat out there I can try taking the wire off the Alt just for drill

I was assuming you were killing the battery by trying to start.
dead spot in a starter won't kill a battery, but Shure will give you a hard way to go

A diode or winding short to ground with the key on will kill a battery dead almost immediately

So I chose to replace the OE starter and Solenoid just for drill.
The OE starter was coated with Oil due to a minor and mysteriously untraceable oil leak. That starter went 280+thousand miles!
New NAPA parts slipped right in except the Starter solenoid which has a anti cross over flag cast into the Bakelite housing that prevents the OE cable grommet from fitting.
That caused me a trip back to NAPA where they said I had the right piece and the copper spacers would solve the issue... Bull$heet!
A quick chomp with a wire cutter made the clearance necessary and everything slipped back in place! No clue why it no started initially but it has fired up every time since.

    Glad to hear the cure

The oil leak on my 88 2.9 wound up being the intake.

I had to do the same nip on my wire to the new starter back then.
One of the few trucks I'm sorry I sold.

    I have 3 Rangers here.
    WHY?
I’ve taken a hard look at the new 2019 and frankly there is no real improvement over the 94 for the amount of the $$$$$ hit required.
I'll rebuild these for different purposes...

    That's me with the 90's f 150-350 trucks.
I'm building a collection of trucks and parts
