I know the older members know i'm into building old hot rods, real old ones, all before 1940 . in pick ups and cars , i've helped do several that became auto mag build ups, a 1928 A pick up.powered by a mercruiser boat 4 banger, nothing special other than the head, under the head lays a chevy 2 nova 4 , made from 1962 to 1968 or 9 just to use the 8 port marine head one needs to custom make the combo intake exhaust themselves , a 1932 vickie sedan 401 nail head , take my word, there do not use felpro head gaskets on a nail head they will leak oil like a river speedway sells a brand named best they are the only ones that don't leak, buick nail heads have a oil galley feeding the rocker arm shafts, felpros do not seal that galey right letting the oil blow from between the head and block . a 33 roadster that sits on dirt track torsion bars for suspension. 350 chevy crate tied to a tremic tkx with a speedway brand quick change rear, a 30 5 window model A ,blown 350 t 400 transmission while there has been newer cars like a 1964 GTO convert and a 1970 chevelle ss 454 ,i prefer 34 and older

the latest is being built for and with the owner, it's a 1929 model A sedan delivery , a rare model to start with as ford is rumored to have made somewhere around 500 of them from 1928 thru 1931 , bodys for them 28 and 29 are one 30 and 31 another, 28 and 29 every body parts is bolted together , 30 and 31 ford started spot welding, fenders are different from sedans

when building these cars one MUST be a combo man, a carpenter and mechanic . people not knowing would never believe how much wood was used as framing back then in cars, cowls, sides ,doors, roofs, it's simply OMG,

frame wise we are using a custom from brookville, dropped ford i beam , 4 bar coilover shock tying in a 28 spine 9.0 ford rear thats being narrowed again from 54 to 48 inches so to clear the frame and stock fenders, power is old school hot rod, a mild 350 chevy tied to a turbo 350 ,firewall is a bitchin brand recessed 4 inches . brakes are early ford front early lincoln rear, al drums as the wheels are ford wire custom 4x15 front and 6x15 rear, using kelsey hayes/ ford wires bring problems, one being the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. the other being you can't have disc brakes they don't clear the rims .

themuch bondo to work to bring it all back to straight . that's one part of restoration work i don't like, BONDO DUST . wood dust is bad enough

all the sheet metal was sand blasted by our local dustless blaster guy, rotted sections replaced with good from real period correct ford parts from same years, than primed multiple times to stop any further rusting,

major problems came with the rear door, NO company makes repops of the rear door nor the fenders so one must make your own, yes you can get fiberglass in kits BUT who wanting to stay real henry wants them , we found a old timer who had the wood door frame made something like 40 years ago and grabbed it up, sheet metal we had to use the rear body center section from a 2 door sedan and cut it down to make the door skin, than hand hammer and roll the metal over a custom screwed in wood to metal preform , OMG noise .
having what is such a rare wood door section, chiseling in the door latches two parts alone by hand took a full day alone as 1 slip damaging that wood would be a nightmare come true, and where to get another?? fitting and rolling over the metal for it took another day,

once we get everything fitted we have to blow it back apart ,paint it up, paint we are going old school .patina looks rattle can .red lead base, satin black steel wooled to make the patina look a touch of rat rod .and reassemble a last time. wire it up ,using a american autowire kit,

old iron is good iron , the back door for the 29 sedan delivery ranks right at the number one, hardest ever job i have done,
it 's all 100 % from nothing but old photos', the woodwork for the frame , making a sedan rear body section into a working door,OMG hard

now if it would just stop snowing and spring come early ,

Lots of nice projects, looks like you might be a master in a lot of areas
But why all the Chevy motors in these fine Fords

  8. captchas

because they fit CHEAPLY , and what the customer wanted the 32's getting a ford, a rare 66 K code 289 with a c4 transmission

VERY nice work. Interesting take on mounting a steering box.

real world today, the cores for all of the big 3 are getting hard to find, it's just hot rodding history of supply's has long favored a chevy SB with more/cheaper parts .down side of a chevy is recessing the firewall for the dizzy . where as a ford SB there are no options for the water pump which winds up to low for a fan blade, making a very thin electric being needed,

this car was first built around 1974 when they used a stock gen 1 mustang box, that's simply how the mustang box mounted.

here's a few more, dropped the body on yesterday, fit the new firewall .made the exhaust, all fit and fab work, prior to blowing it all apart again, for sand blasting , primer, body work, the gantry helps moving the body on and off now, when it's painted 6 men and hands on as the clamp/wood bar will damage the new paint,

Good thing that got a Ford motor, doesn’t look a rear distributor would have fit

  15. captchas

it would have with that Brookville firewall , we would have simply set the motor 1/2inch more forward,
