I'm looking at a '56 that has F-100 badges and is id'ed as such on the vin plate on the cab door frame. It has a 118" wheelbase and an 8' bed. I cannot find any listing in my searches that shows a 118" wheelbase for a F-100, everything I find is for a 110" wheelbase. Is this really a F-250? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

seems to me the f100 has 5-lug axles and the f250 has 8-lug axles. I am sure someone else will chime in here. i wonder if the cab has been swapped out at some point?

I agree, Find the frame serial #, the body one is unreliable.

It has 5 lug axels, but none of the literature I find lists 118" for the F-100.

Will try to locate the frame serial no. Is it near the starter like on some later models? Thanks.

Really not all that familiar with '56, but that should be a good place to look.
You didn't say, but does your data plate show the wheelbase? Although most 1/2 tons would be a 6' box in '56, I wouldn't rule out an 8' one as an option.

Good suggestion. I checked the data plate and it shows 118" wheelbase with an F-100 designation. Seems odd that none of the literature on this model mentions this as an option. Thanks.

By the early sixties, 8 foot stake or platform was an option on 1/2 tons, so it makes sense they would put on an 8 foot box if requested. I just don't know how far back that would go. Anyway, sounds like you have found a rare item, good luck!

Thanks for the link, but it still doesn't mention anything about offering a 118" wheelbase in the F-100 model. I'm going to have to get to the frame ID number to finally clear things up.

Just found an article that notes 25,122 long bed F100's were made in 1956 model year. Guess it is the real deal. Thanks to all who helped in the search.
