1987 f250 fuel gauge level

    my 1987 f250 has two tanks replaced both sending units and the gauges are reading below empty and I have tryed shutting it of then move the floats nothing the wires are both getting power .13 I believe any ideas

    With a multimeter measure the ohm you're getting from the sending unit at the gauge and at the sending unit itself at the tank. If they aren't very close then it's the wiring. If they are, then it should be about 160 ohms with a full tank and 15 ohms with an empty tank. If you get those values then the gauge is defected.

    Welcome to FTZ

    I found with my 89, rust had compromised the ground to the tank
    I added a splice from the ground wire to the tank, and ran it to the frame.

    Do as Ken said first, and check everything with a multimeter first, to see if you have power/continuity to the tank from the gauge

    my 88 did the same thing Charlie. a separate ground wire fixed it .

    On the sending units the two lines should I splice it into the black one?

    i just ran a ground wire from the frame to the tank. used a self tapping screw and ran it into the flange on top of the tank where the lock ring goes. my 88 has a 1/2 inch section sticking up off the tank that made a perfect screw in point.
