I am looking to install a 2010 engine into my 1988 f450SD. Due to the clean air emissions for diesel trucks now, I want to keep the truck I have and install a new or reconditioned 2010 motor so I can keep it.

having never done this before, I wanted to get some advice on the type of engine I need, anything special that i need to get in addition to the engine etc. Any and all advice on where to look would be great.

it will cost more to do than it will to buy a new truck. NOTHING is interchangeable
.
you will need to change engine, transmission, fuel system, complete wiring harness in cab and under hood, dash instrument cluster, exhaust, coolant system, to name a few of the things.
then everything to mount all those parts will need to be custom fabricated because there is no swap kit to do it. .
