Hello all,

I bought a truck project and am attempting to remove the bed to work on frame and gas tanks also some minor body work while I have the bed off. The bolts are stuck so I will be grinding them out, however I cannot find any replacement bolts anywhere online. Does anyone know where to get these replacement bolts and retainers etc? Theres 6 bolts total

 

they are EXPENSIVE if you can even find them anymore.
last i heard close to $200 for the 6 nuts and bolts.
OR
go to home depot and get 6 grade 8 carriage bolts and nuts for under $15

 

I am open to either option I would pay 200 for them and I am more then happy to run to homedepot. What about the retainer clip/mount things because I will have to cut them in order to get the stud of the bolt out. I greatly appreciate any and all info regarding this process.

 

there is no retainer clip. the original bolts were modified carriage bolts with nut on bottom of the frame rail.

Any idea what size bolts to pick up at homedepot? Grinded 5 of the 6 off today, will update with pictures soon.

 

i don't remember. they might be 5/8 though. just measure one of the frame holes.

 

Got all the bolts cut and they actually fell thru the bed hole. I can pick up and wobble the bed easily, I have pulled the tail lights out, disconnect gas hoses and it feels like its still getting hung up on something. Am I missing anything else?

fuel fill has a bracket to the bed on some years.
wire harness some years clips into bed.
some i have seen ground straps between bed and frame.
otherwise, i would just slowly lift and look under to see if anything is holding it.
