I have been looking through both my Haynes manual and the original owners manual for my truck this morning trying to find some information about the differential I have and my payload/towing capacities.

I found in my original manual that my truck has an E40D transmission and a 3.55 differential. Been looking through the Haynes manual to find differential oil capacity and type for my truck. The manual lists several types, I am unsure if my differential is a Dana or Ford and if it is a limited slip? The Haynes manual does not state anything about the 3.55, I am unsure if it goes by something else. I lack any knowledge about differentials and like finding my info from official literature rather than sources online to ensure I am working with same parts, components, etc.

Sometimes I try to Google the info and find links like the one provided below that provide info for me however I need to know how I can find the same information to ensure it is made by Ford and a Non-limited slip.

The driver's side door will have a VIN decal with all the various codes like paint, axle, etc. Post that here and I'll look it up. There should also be a tax on the differential too, post what you find on that too.

Truck differential tag and door sticker attached to post

    VIN: 1FTHX25G2NKA23923

Searched online and only one VIN decoder out of the 3 I used said it is a 3/4 ton but the information in my original post says otherwise. Previous owner mentioned it is Heavy Duty Package with Camper Package. Been doing some payload computations and the truck is weighing in at Unladen GVW of 4,600 lbs. and has GVWR of 8800 lbs. Even if I factor in weight of full fuel tanks, this truck still has over 3,000 lb. payload. This is not GCVWR which is towing a trailer which was easy to find and calculate

I cannot see my truck weighing more than 5,000 lbs. or even 5,500 given that my previous truck, 2000 F350 Crew Cab, 8ft bed, 7.3, weighed in at 6,000 lbs. Even with overestimate of truck weight, I still have a 3k payload capacity.

    Thanks!

Your data plate shows code 39, which is the same code my 93 parts truck has (F250 Dsl), it is a 10.25 open with 3.55 ratio, a limited slip has a letter and number, whereas an open diff has only numbers. My 84 has a Dana 60, and my understanding was that is the last year for them, at least in my country.
Anyway, Dana has smaller hubs, with fixed drums, 10.25 has larger hubs and the drums are removable without pulling the hub.

Ok, I can see now how you derived that from the sticker. Where does the number "10.25" come in? Definitely not a Dana given I removed the drums without having to remove the hub.

10.25 is the ring gear size, your book calls it a Ford 10.25, but I believe it is built by Sterling, not Ford.
