Grandson ran low on coolant, blew head gaskets...took to indepent shop who said both heads bad, replaced with used ones....ran good for about 200 miles(has 156,000) then started popping thru air box....took back to same garage and he says back cyl on passenger side cam lope worn out, not moving lifter/vavle.

How did it wear after all this time and if not moving how is it popping into intake? Might have vales set to tight?

Did they check the ignition system/ distributor cap?

Cause and Effect...................Before the overheat it was running fine, They worked on it, they most likely caused the problem.
I would be looking at a broken valve spring caused mishandling during the head-job.
I have seen the 4.0 OHV motors commonly go 300,000 miles without a hitch.

4.0 has coil packs, but that is a thought too.

Perhaps the overheating was severe enough to cause cam binding?
