Good afternoon friends! I am new to the forum and did not find anything specific relating to my question. I am pulling a fifth wheel, within the weight/load limits specified by Ford. The temp in Central Texas is around 110-112F on the highway during the summer. Driving through the Hill Country requires frequent ascents/descents. I watch the gauges and noticed that, although the transmission (six speed) temperature bar is steady at the normal temp range position and nowhere near the danger zone, the gauge reported as high as 220F. Is this normal? It continues to shift normally, no slips, etc. and the gauge is not near the danger zone. What is the max temp?

Wow.. we drove through Nevada and Utah where it was 92-100 and even o er the hills/mountains our transmission temp got to 203 at the highest. Was pulling a car trailer with a car on it. The load was just under 5k - not sure if this helps

Its normal for those kind of ambient temps considering you're towing.

The manual says normal operating temp is 200°F - 210°F, and that's unloaded. In very hot temps loaded down these things can hit 245°F before you gotten really keep an eye on things. They use full synthetic which have better temp specs! 250 is the new 230!
