I have a 77 F150 4x4 with a 400 FMX I think it's around a 74ish but don't know what it came out of. I am needing an oil pan with a rear sump and cannot find it. The number under the starter says D1AE-6015-A2C. Anyone know what it could be? Thanks JB

I did a little searching on the internet, probably read the same stuff you did assuming you also did a little research. That part number, from what I could tell, is a 400 block. But, that part number was used on both 2 and 4 bolt main blocks. Doubt that has anything to do with the oil pan. If that motor was made for both cars and trucks, I guess the oil pan could be different depending on what application it was made for.

A member here, BKW, would be the guy that may know exactly what you're looking for.

Last time I checked for this oil pan for my buddy, we couldn't find one
I wound up welding up a pan for him

Thanks for the response. The reason I am looking for another pan is I cannot stop a leak from the front of it. Any ideas on what to use with new seal? thanks again, JB

Well, as dustybumpers said, if it's got a crack, someone could weld it.

Are you sure it's not the timing cover?

No F100/350 351M/400 2WD or 4WD came with an FMX. Since the 400 was swapped (from a 1971 Galaxie/LTD/Mercury Marquis), the transmission was probably swapped too.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code, post what it is.

    1980/82 Econolines were available w/a 400 and all 1975/96 Econoline 300 I-6 and V8's have a rear sump pan.

CampSprings: D1AE-6015-A2C is the block casting number, it's not a part number. Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

351C was available with 2 and 4 (351C 4V GT only) bolt mains, but the 400 was not. 400's only have 2 bolt mains.

1977 was the first year that the 351M/400 was installed in F100/350's, Bronco got 'em in 1978.

    The block casting number for 1977/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco 351M/400: D7TE-6015-A2B

351C's with 4 bolt mains were not installed in Galaxie/LTD/Mercury Marquis.

Dusty: No 351C, 351M or 400 has a timing cover...per se, just a flat engine cover plate.

The fuel pump bolts to the left (drivers) side of the engine block, its bolt pattern is 6 & 12 o'clock.

These three engines are the only ones with this fuel pump bolt pattern.

I agree Bill, but there is still a gasket, and there could still be an oil leak

Yes, but with a flat engine cover plate, an oil leak will be much easier to spot than with a conventional timing cover.

Another thing, while the 400 that's in the OP's truck now came from a 1971 Galaxie/LTD or a Mercury Marquis, what engine came with it originally?

This is why I asked the OP for the VIN engine code. If it came with a 351M or 400, the only transmission available was the C6. The only F series trucks that came w/the FMX were 1973/77 F350's with the 300 I-6.

So, does the OP's truck really have a swapped in FMX or does it have the C6? Some people don't know one A/T from another and this includes auto parts store parts clucks...that don't know much of anything...except how to work a computer.

Did one of these clucks, if asked by the OP, say the transmission is an FMX? Possibly.

Plus, when it comes to engine oil pans, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference what the transmission is.

Hell, If you could find an adapter, you could swap in any of the auto makers transmission' including the oddballs. For one example, the Borg-Warner 3 band installed in 1951/55 Studebakers and mid '50's/60's Jaguar Mark series 4 door sedans.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we're waiting for the OP to respond...how long will that be? I remember one guy on t'other site that didn't respond for a month. The NOS parts I found for him were all gone, bought up by others. So, now he was p!ssed.

I told him, well that's just too damn bad, you had your chance and you blew it, so you only have yourself to blame. Quit b!tching at other members for the problem that you created.
