I want to convert my 1986 f150 to points ignition by putting in a 71 f100 distributor but pictures on line look different. Will an 86 accept a 71 distributor?

    Why?

I like old school and am prepared to do the associated tinkering with a points ignition. My only concern with putting a 71 f100 distributor in an 86 f150 is the proper meshing with the cam and no interference with an oil passage. All the smog is gone as well as the computer.

HEI is too bulky and requires an external control module. I'm looking for a clean look just like the old trucks. I know the drawbacks with points and am willing to deal with them. I'm not looking for a 'race car.'

Why not run a small cap Duraspark and relocate the D/Sprk box under the dash?

Hmm . . . interesting idear. Never thought of that.

Ds II Distributer, HEI modal, and a EFI coil is the way to go.

    Thanks.

Make sure to mount the modal on a heat sink.
I can post a wiring diagram if you need it

This era engine could be a Roller cam.
Make certain that the Dizzy Drive gear material is the same on the old and the new.

  13. LarsTurner

What do you mean by 'material'?

A Roller Cam requires that the Dizzy Gear be Bronze, the hydraulic flat tappet Camshaft requires Cast Iron.

    Thanks, Muel.
