Hello all. Just joined the Ford family. I bought an 84 F350 dually to do some hauling in town. Looking to understand the basics about this truck so I can put it to work.

I think it has a 460 in it but honestly, I'm a novice and can't tell by looking at it. I'm looking to have it looked over and tuned up and fix any potential problems with it, get a muffler put on (currently has 2 cherry bombs; obnoxious) and figure out towing capabilities as it has 2 hitches and a 5th wheel.

What do you guys think about this rig? Check out my photos and share any thoughts you might have.

    Thanks!

welcome. looks like a clean rig.
top hitch in back is a "pintle hook" it is used for hooking to heavy construction type trailers.
lower ball looks like a 2 inch. there are 3 different balls used for towing trailers.
    1-7/8 for small trailers.
    2 inch for most trailers.
    and 2-5/16 for large trailers.
you need to pay attention to ball size when towing. a 1-7/8 ball will fit into a 2 inch hitch. but it will be loose and can pop out.
2 inch ball will fit into a 2-5/16 hitch too. this is even more dangerous, because those trailers are HEAVY.

Thanks for the reply brother. Pintle hook. Now I have a search term I can learn more about. I know I can put another removable 5th wheel on there to tow just about anything. What is the term for the type of 5th wheel embedded? I was aware of the hitch ball sizes. I have that on my suburban. If you can point out anything else it would be much appreciated!

that i do not want to steer you wrong on. i know just enough about small vehicle 5th wheel setups to know i don't know anything about them.
all i can tell you is it is a ball style 5th wheel.
i am tractor trailer truck smart.
