Can a 1986 F150 with fuel injection be converted to a carb and earlier intake manifold?

    I assume this is a 302?

Question, why? You'll get less fuel economy and throttle response won't be as good. And it's a lot of hassle:

You'd have to get the carb, swap the intake manifold, set up a throttle cable linkage, get a carb 302 distributor and redo the fuel system by getting rid of the stock fuel pump and using a low-pressure inline pump. If the transmission is an E4OD, it uses the computer to control it and you'd have to convert it to be a vacuum and kick down cable controlled.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it's a 302. Asking for a friend. His truck has been sitting up for several years and had computer and injection problems when it was parked. Probably going to be expensive to get it going again and we considered switching back to carb because one is available if this switch could be done. transmission is automatic but don't know which one. I will pass this info along. Thank you for your very informative answer.

I think it wouldn't be to hard, do all the above, make sure the pump is set to just under the needle valve pressure (usually like 5-7 psi or something)... IF---- THAT IS IF you had a good c-6 transmission to get rid of the computer shifted thing thats probably in that truck.

Why your there, consider a manual conversion... just a thought.
