    Greetings,

I am a first-time poster who is assisting an old timer neighbor fix his 1973 F100 overheat problem.

I purchased a Barnum Bros D3TA 8146BA fan shroud off eBay with a couple of cracks that need repair. I am wondering if anyone can confirm the material.

I am pretty sure it is fiberglass but am wondering if it is traditional fiberglass or SMC. See attached pictures.

    Thanks PXL_20220314_233035421.jpg #ad

I don't know 100%, but I thought they were made from fibered polypropylene. Polypropylene holds up well with under hood heat, ABC and PCV tend to have lower melting points.

Thanks, glad I asked. That makes much more sense, it too smooth to be fiberglass.

I've repaired a split cover (on a newer truck) from the back side using a "plastic welder" with plastic sticks to bind the two sides of the crack. Then fill in the crack with appropriate plastic filler and sand it smooth. The "welder" is basically a soldering iron with a flat end, and you can get those on Amazon with the plastic sticks pretty cheap.
