    I didn't want to hijack critter's thread.

But dusty bumper mentioned swapping up to 89 brakes on front.

I would love to know the skinny on that one.

What year is your F250, is it 2WD or 4WD?

If 2WD, does it have single piston caliper disc brakes or dual piston caliper disc brakes?

    Hi, it's an 84, F-250, XLT, reg cab, 4wd, 4 sp, 460, single piston.

I am most interested if that dual piston from a 89 is a simple bolt on or does it require a master cylinder swap.

The front end is essentially a D44 Punkin in the independent front end.

I hadn't thought about upgrading the brakes until I saw that little comment.

I don't haul a lot of weight often. A light pop up camper and towing my 4wd but even with that light load I could use a little improvement stopping.

    1980/89 Ford truck parts catalog sez: 1984/89 F250 4WD over 8,500 lbs. GVW with 6.9L; 7.3L & 7.5L has dual piston calipers.

Interesting. You would think I would have noticed that. Perhaps I was asleep when I last changed my pads.

Notice I said over 8,500 lbs. GVW / There was also a 1983/89 F250 "Light Duty" (under 8,500 lbs. GVW) that came with an 8.8" rear axle, and single piston calipers.

GVW printed on the Certification Label. It's glued to the left door face below the latch.

Mine is max load rating, forget the exact number but I know it's rated more than the lightest 1 ton for that era. Rear is a Dana 70u, full floater.

Max GVW and Dana 70, your truck has dual piston calipers.

I will have a good chuckle at myself when I verify that.

My quest is to improve my braking performance. I thought I was hearing about a good inexpensive upgrade.

Sorry man. But you have the better brakes. Improve the quality of your parts (pads/rotors) to make it better

Get some slotted brake rotors up front, SBC pads, and bed them per their instructions.

Look into the diesel f 350 trucks from 94-97, they had a hydro boost ( power steering pump driven) instead of the vacuum booster.
They also had a larger master cyl bore.

Large trailers really need a braking system on them though, as it isn't going to make much difference How big your brakes are, if you have a heavy trailer pushing you when you are trying to stop

Misc 1972/79 FoMoCo Passenger Cars also have Hydro-Boost, use the Saginaw P/S pump that resembles a "canned ham."
