Explorer Can't shift out of Park

    2008 Explorer Having trouble shifting from Park into other gear. Auto transmission,
    Brake lights come on when placing foot on brake prior to trying to shift out of park.
    Any other simple test to try prior to repair shop

    The shift mechanism needs to be adjusted or replaced. In the meantime, remove the rubber from the bottom of the cup holder and you'll see a square under there. Press down on it with a flat head screw driver to manually unlock the shifter.

    All the " new" ones are cable wolfie
    Some of the "newer " ones are electronic
