    Hello out there.

I am new to this and have never written on sites such as this.

I have just witnessed almost 3 months of 5 tows, 8 crank/no starts, several engine failure messages driving at hwy speed. I have been without my truck for 49 days to date. I have been through 7 dealership work orders.

I have this person, diesel mechanic at a Ford dealership that I am working with currently. He has found the culprit. He would not give up until he could figure out this strange occurrence. I am pleased with this person.

This is what he found after many days of investigating the problem. First let's start at the beginning. After a fuel fill up on November 30, 2020 vehicle would not start...crank/no start....Extremely odd since this is the first time I have experienced this...mileage 42073.2. After 5 tries (crank/no start) and 20 minutes later, it starts. I do not shut down the engine until I arrive at my destination 300 miles down the road.

I had a computer code check. There were no errors.

On February 21, 2021, on a trip to Florida fuel stop at mileage 4357.0. After 6 tries (crank/no start) 30 minutes later, it starts.

On February 23, 2021, fuel stop mileage 44495.6. After fueling and 6 tries (crank/no start) we call for a tow.

On February 24, 2021 the nearest dealer could not see anything and called me back to pick up the truck. No computer error codes were found. He said he found air in the fuel lines. I asked what would cause that....no answer. I return to my trailer...oh by the way I am pulling an Airstream on this Florida trip.

On February 24, 2021 commencing to hitch the Ford to the Airstream, (crank/no start). Try multiple times and still (crank/no start) mileage 44506.3. Call for second tow. Back to the same dealer in Florida.

On February 25, 2021 technician runs codes....'low fuel pressure.' He replaces 2 new fuel filters. I just had the filters replaced (mileage 43160.0) prior to this Florida trip. This was not necessary (filters should be good for 15-25K) but I figure he just wanted to make money and appease me.

On March 2, 2021 (crank/no start) mileage 44864.6. This is my third (3rd) tow. Dealer runs codes and replaces the fuel pump control module.

On March 14, 2021 cranks and makes a weird sound (mileage 45237.0) as if it would not want to start but it
    starts.

On March 17, 2021 we are driving west on I-10 at the speed limit. 'Engine failure' warning and vehicle has no power. Mileage 45406.2 I meander to the shoulder. Vehicle completely dead. I try and restart. I return to I-10 and when I attain approx 50mph, 'engine failure' and meander to the shoulder. I restart and drive at 10mph and increase slowly to 45mph. Vehicle seems to not fail at that speed.

I make it to an exit with a Ford Dealer. Mileage 45430.8. Codes are ran and the fuel pump control module is replaced again. Technician says it has failed.

April 3, 2021 in my driveway (crank/no start). Try several times, mileage 46299.7 (crank/no start). Call for tow. It is taken to a nearby Ford Dealer. They cannot replicate the problem/incident. The vehicle starts up for them without hesitation. They run codes. They replace the fuel pump. Mileage is 46322.2. I take my vehicle home.

On April 26, 2021, I am at the doctor's office and (crank/no start). Mileage 46347.3 Tried several times but (crank/no start). Call for tow. I make a video of the incident. I believe no one actually believed that this vehicle was doing multiple (crank/no starts). I am on the phone with the Service Department and they are listening to the noise of the (crank/no start). They are believing me now.

On April 27, 2021 the vehicle started immediately at the Dealer. However, the technician is taking my notes and concerns seriously and investigates. The vehicle was at the dealer several days when (crank/no start) occurred for the technician. Now he had something to work with. He started the vehicle several times and at some point had a (crank/no start). Alas, the vehicle stopped.

    On a highway Screen Shot 2021-05-11 at 10.38.00.png #ad
test drive the vehicle did an 'engine failure' and was ready to be towed by the dealer to the dealer. The vehicle was restarted. He was able to start the vehicle and along with another person started to look under the vehicle and jiggled the conduit of the wiring harness. Now they were able to control the engine failure and ran more codes.

The wire harness on the drivers side showed internal damage on the #10 gauge purple/green wire that leads to the fuel pump and fuel control module. It appears to have a kink and is white from loss of integrity.

This is were I end this chat. My vehicle is still at the dealer and they are testing and retesting it as I write this.

I thought this would help anyone who is experiencing weird (crank/no start) scenarios and engine failure on the hwy scenarios. This has been a hellish experience for us.

Greetings....I just saw your posting.... First of all do you have the FORD insurance that you would have purchased when you bought the vehicle? That will come in very handy if you have that. The problem all along was a loose and deteriorated wire that is concealed inside the wire harness. No one in the world would have ever found this except the mechanic would not give up looking for the problem. The FORD dealership had my truck for almost a month. It started all the time until one day the mechanic started poking and moving around the wire harness..Still ....it started...he decided to take a test drive on the major highway here and ...guess what....it finally did what it had been doing .......it completely stopped cold on the highway...FORD in Michigan got involved. It has nothing to do with the fuel filter...pump....etc....it was a defective (look at my photos) wire bulging.....They took the car apart and finally figured it out....if you want to talk more send me your email. I was reimbursed for all the inaccurate work done by the other dealers. The insurance will pay for several items but they are hidden in the fine print. Knock on wood the technician at 5STARFORD had tenacity and would not give up until he could figure out the problem....I am enjoying my truck as I write this.

Amazing!! Sounds you're very luck the problem was found. Does anyone have any idea what caused the wire to corrode?

Did some checking around and it seems that the wiring goes to the high pressure fuel pump - and chaffing is not uncommon but not until it gets up towards 200K! Sounds like Ford's got an issue and they oughta redesign how it's held.

    Ford should recall them

I was told it was a supplier defect...the wire was put into the harness in that condition. It is a very tiny bulge. When the truck rattles around on the road the wire movement sets off the power disconnect. Of course the wires are tied so they do not move around but that bulge just needed a tiny movement to stop the truck. That is why no one could ever figure out why it stopped...why all of the sudden it was a crank no start....until they physically removed the wire harness and inspected it on the floor....that is when they found the tiny area.

Well hopefully now that ford is aware of it they will order in a bunch of harness THEN issue a recall, after all it's a safety issue.

    UPDATE 2018 f350 6.7
My dealer , more than 3 months after they change wire hardness, fuel modul is bad again, they change it, for the 3rd time, truck start. But they have no idea what cause the trouble.
7 months now, multiple problems, crank no start, low fuel pressure, low engine power, engine stall ..... 7 tows sometimes with 15000 lbs trailer. They change fuel pump, fuel modul and wire hardness.
And they have no idea, there waiting for a call from Ford.

    I'm desperate

    Frank, that's awful.

Hopefully they bring a specialist to track this stuff down!

Hello. Just saw your post......My truck is in texas, the work done to fix the problem was by 5Star Ford in Richland Hills...the diesel technician was the person who worked on the car and with a Ford representative from Michigan (I think)....here is their info in case you want to contact Gabriel (Tech 5)...he was super efficient, super knowledgeable with Diesel. Also meticulous notes were made with this problem....whomever you are working with, can pick up those notes in the Ford system. 817-500-0097, 6618 Northeast Loop 820, Richland Hills, TX 76180. Can you give us an idea where this wire and issue is located?
Inside the Cab, outside, how many inches from something thats obvious so I/we can go check the harness and inspect.
Can you even get hands/eyes on it?

I have new batteries, all new relays in the fuse block (yes all, the big, med and small ones - thanks amazon for about $40)
All fuses are good, starter will crank with a screwdriver to short it.

Thanks in advance, as this is the ONLY thread on the entire interwebs that has this specific data, without the "have you tried" the normal bs.
Some of us DO try everything before we post.
