I just got a 65 f100 and the passenger side door won’t open. Both the outside handle and the inside handle are free. It feels as if the inside handle will lock the door. I’ve never looked at a latch mechanism so I don’t know if it’s possible that it is rusted stuck and the bar connecting it to the handle is still working or if that bar may have come loose. Any suggestions?

 

The striker plate attaches to the B pillar with 3 screws. The screws work loose, the strike plate wobbles, when you shut the door, this pushes the striker plate all the way in and when you try to open it, the striker plate is jammed into the latch.

Push the door all the way in, do not press the door handle button. Once the door is all the way in, insert a plastic putty knife in the gap between the door and the B pillar, use force to pry on it...then push the button and YANK!

Thank you. Fortunately I got the door open and I checked the striker plate on both sides like you said. It has a shim on the passenger side and the door latch has some odd headed screws that rub but it’s not the problem.
As I recall on my 66 I pulled up on the handle to open and pushed down to lock it. This one is just the opposite. Both doors work the same way. Is that the way it should be ?

 

You push the inside door handles forward to lock the doors.

Handle position was originally pointing straight down (see parts catalog pic in post #2), but I've seen many different variations.
