so ive been working on my truck, f150 flare side 5.0. ive bought cold air intake, cobra intake upper and lower, fuel rail with regulator. high performance injectors, and headers. next is cam, lifters ect. i have only installed the cold air intake. ive been looking around for gt40 heads and im just hoping this all fits. this is my first project car, im not a mechanic but still pretty mechanical. im struggling with buying the correct cam. flat tipped camshaft? rollers? springs, seats? Ive done my best research and in theory it should all come together. any advice? i could use some advice because everyone who i know thats a "car guy" seems to be not such a "car guy" after all.

Go find a set of 3 bar gt 40 heads on a 95-96 explorer.
NOT 4 bar heads from 97 up, they take special exhaust

You have a roller block, so get a roller cam, and the lifters that come with it.
Make sure to get a cam for 94 with maf, it has it's own firing order.
If you are keeping your computer, you can keep the maf in the air tube to the air cleaner, but you can change the air box out to a better cold air system
get a set of 1.7 ped mount roller rocker arms. shorty headers, and go have some fun.

i have pretty much the same engine in my falcon, except i only have the 1.6 rockers.
got 396 HP on the dyno.

 

Yup. That f 150 of mine will smoke all 4 tires with a load on

Thanks for the good advice, should I keep the dual throttle body or go with the 70mm?

 

Sweet, I got bad ass injectors too, should I wait to do the Cam first?

 

To be honest, the 92-94 truck throttle body has a bigger plenum runners than the mustang unit. I used the truck plenum, mustang throttle body

Stock truck roller cam with the 1.7 roller rockers is all you need. also, You don't need those injectors, stock injectors will do what you need

 

i used the Ford Motorsport E-303 cam to make that 396 HP

 

In a truck, you need torque, not top end.

we put a comp cams RV cam in the 86 F150 with 302 and it would roast the 35 inch tires.
