    Has this happened too anybody?
    2003 Ford Explorer Sport , 6 cylinder , gas
    Mileage over 285000 thousand , ( has been a good truck )
    Manuel shifting

    SOUNDS BIZARRE
On rare occasions a concerning puddle of oil under car.
Rarely happens, When it happens car is hot from hours of use, ONLY AT IDLE Waiting for somebody

    EXAMPE
Other day son and I ran errands. Went home, I said will wait for you in car. 15 minutes he returns and says
Dad , a puddle of oil under car. Smelling nothing
This has happened 1/2 dz times during year.
No pattern , Many times car is hot, I am waiting , car idling , NO OIL DROPPING , other times it drops
ONLY PATTERN IS NO PATTERN .
I am thinking oil pan gasket brittle,

You wouldn't happen to have noticed, if the front of the truck is pointing up hill or tipped to the right or left?
I had a Valve Cover gasket let go in the back by the Firewall (4.0L) after some minor work and it did similar random things.

Thanks for your response when oil dropped truck on a straight away . Last 3 times I was waiting for somebody , car idling , Only dip was slight dip along curb so rain water can run along curb.
If it was valve cover oil would hit manifolds and oil would smell . Oil filter ? but oil seems too be coming from drivers side ?
Truck has a lot of mileage, has been a good truck . Still runs good but I baby it .
Happens Rarely . But when it happens car was hot from use, I am waiting in car, car idling 15 minutes or longer , and sometimes it drops a puddle. Never noticed if it happens at traffic light only long period of time at idle ??

How much oil does it use between oil changes?

Could still be valve cover gasket, and drain in block/ head is plugged
while running, oil goes down anoter passage

    Any possibility it's transmission fluid?

I have a gut feeling it is the oil filter. Replace it with a top grade filter, but look at the sealing surfaces before you do, especially the thread adapter. Bet you find it a little loose...
