My 1996 ford f150 xlt 5.8 liter starts and seems to idle ok but when I floor the gas peddle it pops a few times and then dies out what should I check

 

You don’t say how it runs otherwise, does it run smooth except for the problem you describe?
I would probably check the fuel pump pressure first, not sure what it should be, but those in tank pumps cause a lot of problems
