Hey everyone im new here obviously i am on two missions here one is to possibly swap a diesel into my 95 explorer in the future why people ask it was kid brothers idea and suv he has since passed now i want to finish his build period.. ok second mission which is right now a buddy has a 88 F250 302 automatic with overdrive his transmission failed i went to the junkyard and the trannys they had all had real short transmission pans his has a long one now im not familiar with ford trannys just knw how easy they are to remove so question is what can i grab to put in there all the yard has is a couple late 80s F150s and some early 90s F150s can i use a transmission out of a 97F150 the pans are identical thats all i know any help or criticism is greatly appreciated

 

I think the 88 should be the AOD. Did they possibly put the A4LD in some pickups?

 

AOD is the A4LD
E4OD came out in 89
everything else in 88 was a c6 3 speed

Thank your lucky stars, because the god awful A4LD was never installed in F series trucks.

When I worked at Cerritos Ford in the mid 1980's, they only sold new Rangers and Bronco II's with M/T's, due to myriad problems with the A4LD, that was made in France.

And, the A4LD is not an AOD
