We are researching fifth wheel campers and trucks to tow them with. The question is how to determine the appropriate F-series truck. Using towing weight specifications, a single rear wheel F250 would do the trick. Should we consider pin weight and truck cargo specifications as well? If so, where can I get cargo specifications for all the truck configurations.

    Thanks,

I think an F450 would do it...

Considering your truck payload is a must. Includes pin weight, people, cargo, and anything else you put in truck. It may be rated to tow more than your trailer weighs but your truck could be overloaded.
Just an example. Trucktow rating 15000lbs. Actual trailer weight 12000lbs. Should be good to go??
Pin weight 600lbs. People 500lbs. Miscellaneous stuff. 700lbs.
Truck payload 1400lbs. Oops 100lbs over. Need heavier truck, even though you can tow 3000 more lbs.
PHTPHTPHTPHT apparently I can't add. That would be 1800lbs. 400lbs over.

like I said I bet an F-450 would do it. When my truck squats 2-2 1/2 inches with 5th wheel pin directly over the rear axel, zero squat to rear tires at 10lbs UNDER max pressure, I don't give a poop what the payload says!!! Go git ya a 550 then!

I would likely do the same. Better to have 20% more than baaaarely enough.

Yes but, when your truck squats only 2" or so...ewspeciallyn with the 5th wheel pin directly oval the rear axel as opposed th a couple inches forward.....the truck is FAR from overloaded...not "barely enough".

2inch squat, not too bad . Should be fine

See what the squat spec. is on the door jam sticker. As long as you're under that you should be good. Make sure you drain and flush the Blinker fluid as noted in the owners manual to keep your warranty valid also.
