How to test the eec4

    My 1996 ford f150 xlt 5.8 liter will start and when accelerator pedal is pressed it sometimes will rev the motor and sometimes make the motor pop a few times and the dies out what should I check out

    The EEC-IV has very limited self-tests. Look for these codes:
    241 EEC IV/EDIS module, incorrect self test data
    511 ROM Fault
    512 Keep Alive Memory Fault
    513 EEC IV module reference voltage V

    Other than that, you've have to test each circuit, which is more than I can explain in detail here.

    96 is a obd 2 with the proper tester one can get soup to nuts, 1995 can be tricky some had eec 4 with did not much, unless it had cailf emissions obd 2 like mine was, that drove a jersey dealer crazy

    Your symptoms are almost exactly what mine were on a 92, it was the throttle position sensor. Not saying to change that, just a good thing to test.
