I have (or thought I had) a 77 F150 plow truck that I'm about to put up for sale. I have a state assigned title. But I've just learned that the the entire Chassis is a F250 (Highboy?) Divorced transfer case, larger springs, etc.

I've looked all over the right frame rail for a Vin # and can't find anything. Any suggestions? I also need to identify what engine is in it to buy some parts.

I'll try and include some pics. Any help is much appreciated.

The 1st pic is of blue tag on engine block (passenger side) 91001363

2nd pic is from intake manifold 18726548

Do these #'s tell us what engine is in it?

3rd pic of Divorced transfer case. Does it look to be a NP205 or Dana

GDub46, Welcome to FTZ. The second # IS, 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, it is the firing order for the ignition system. It appears that 1977 was the first year of the 351M/400 engines in F-250's and that is their firing order. Look on the intake manifold for another # possibly beginning D6 or D7 or other beginning with C or D. C and D equal decades, C=60's, D=70's, the next # would be the year. Take picture of the engine from Drivers side showing the spark plug / wire layout, being all angled the same OR if 1st 2 are angled forward and last 2 angled rearward, this would indicate a FE engine. If this truck is cobbled together and not original, you could have anything.

On frame VIN, good luck because of rust, much wire brushing, sometimes the inner fender well blocks half the upper frame surface. 1, on top of right front frame, front or rear of engine cross member, and 2nd, top of frame, under the passenger side door area. If you could clean it, mirror to read it.

No help here on T-Case. Mounting looks like it's cobbled in there. Cap

    Thank You Cap,
I will look for more #'s on the intake tomorrow. Here are some engine pics I took last week. Thank You. IMG20240114134359.jpg #ad

Engine is a 351/400, blue tag is likely from a rebuilder, not factory. Also, I see a closed knuckle front diff., I think that would be a '60s item. (T. case photo)
My guess is that it is a '77 body on an earlier frame, look for modified box mount holes, body gaps, bumper alignment etc.

Agree with Oldie ask on engine being a 351M or 400. Nice catch on the front knuckles! T-Case mounting was/is a flag. My "Guess" is 77 cab-chassi with earlier running gear put under it. We'll see, maybe.

GDub, how about pictures of the VIN plate on the drivers door and straight on under the front bumper showing the front springs attaching to the spring frame brackets n brackets to the frame? Cap

    Thanks Guys,
I'll take a pic of the front end later today Cap. Above are the tags on drivers door area.

    1. Door jam with what's probably the original tag (white) that has vital info covered up. Then a metal state assigned tag below it.

    2. On Door itself. Metal tag. I'll need to take a better pic of it later

The 3rd pic is the one of interest. To blurry to read.

Sorry for the delay. I've been out of town. Here is a better pic of the tag on drivers door. Besides being a '77 F150, what else does it tell us?

F15sl= F150 2 wheel drive, 400 eng. built at Michigan Truck. A 4X4 would be F14 for 1/2 ton or F26 for 3/4, all Hiboys are 3/4 ton. By '77, they were open Knuckle and had integral power steering, as well as an integral T. case and lower suspension. At least the running gear, and likely the whole frame is late '60s, I would say. The sequential part is for dec. '76.
Most of the rest doesn't matter anymore, but 133 Wheelbase, Bright red-raven black, F150, Vinyl standard bench seat blue, styleside p/u, C6 auto. The DSO is for Salt Lake.
