I just bought a 2020 F150 XLT 3.5 ecoboost. My front license plate is mounted in the center. A friend told me it has to be mounted on the side, because it would interfere with inter-cooler? The license plate was already mounted in the center when I purchased it.

 

don't listen to your friend. ford engineers designed the truck, not your friend. ford designed with the plate in the middle.

Just leave it where it should be, it will not interfere with the inter cooler.
