2020 F250 Super Duty Diesel Power Stroke. 25000 miles
Had oil/filter changed this morning. Drove about 12 miles from Ford dealer to my house and decided to check the oil level.
Level was good but the oil looked almost black. Is that normal, after 12 miles?

    Thanks.

It is normal. Not sure of the scientific explanation for it though.

Thanks. Made me wonder a bit... Funny though...

Every diesel does it. From a little 2 litre right up to 16 litre truck engines. Turbo or not.

Its combustion soot that too fine for the filter, being in suspension by the oil. Its normal. :) Gas engines do it too, but don't get as sooty as quickly. It's one of the reasons diesels have higher oil capacity.

Yrs ago, MANY Nyrs ago I did maintenance on our diesel tractor trailers. We'd change the oil and filter, start them up to ck for leaks, shut it down pull dip stick....the oil was black..
