Hearing a noise

I have an 1988 ford ranger. I have had this problem for 2weeks now. My truck is making a noise when ever I shift gears.
    Light ticking sound
    Sound like low COMPRESSOR noise
    No loss of power
    Noise coming from cylinder 1(assuming)
    Not burning oil
    Not running rich
    Idle smooth
Ranger 2.3 LL cranks easy no smoke

Is there anyone that can give me an idea or know a place in Georgia I can take it too? Hoping it's something I can fix myself but I'm totally lost now.

    Ticking from cylinder.one?
Loose spark plug or exhaust leak. Are you sure it is coming from the engine?

Pull and check the plugs to rule they out. If that looks okay, a short piece of garden hose maybe 3-4 feet long, put one end to your ear and move the other near each cylinder on the exhaust manifold to check for an exhaust leak.

Georgia's a big state! I lived there a good deal of my life... where in Georgia if it's anywhere near where I know someone I'll give a recommendation.
