Hey guys. So...I just replaced the idler and steering pump. The old idler was completely split all the way through. The old steering pump had worn bearings. After I installed the new idler, it would squeal every time I fired it up. Only after the engine had been running for a half hour or so would the squealing somewhat go away. Is this an issue with the belt or the idler??? This was a brand spankin' new idler.

I would replace the belt and check the tensioner.

What on the tensioner should i check? I mean it is brand new.

I thought you only replace the idler pulley.
Definitely replace the belt. Spin all the accessories to check them while the belt is off. Check the new belt is tight. Possible a bad new part...

Ok a little update...the squealing only happens when the engine is cold. I ran the truck up and down the road a little and the squealing would get less and less and eventually go away completely after about 15 min.

I've seen the bearings on them cause noise, even new. Usually, marine grease will take care of it.

Ok I'll try that. All I know is the old idler was causing no noise.
