1992 F250: replaced battery and alternator due to battery not charging. Vehicle ran fine after the replacement approx 500+ on new alternator. Vehicle voltage gauge started reading on the low end and not starting on its own. Tested voltage at battery 12.36 volts. started vehicle and voltage was slowly dropping. Pulled alternator and noticed the plug going to the voltage regulator (alternator mounted) was melted. Could this have been a faulty alternator which may have been overcharging and melted the plug? Where can I get a new plug?

judging from all the rust i would say that was the issue plus AGE, when doing that repair i would replace the alternator ,reg and the pigtail harness which ford sells thou motorcraft .
