I'm working on a 1954 F100 rebuild with the original 223 six cylinder. We have the engine at the machine shop and have found that the head is cracked. Does anyone know someone that would have an engine head that would work on a 1954 Ford 223 engine? It is possible that the head we have could be pinned and welded, but was hoping to find a head that is not cracked.

The cylinder head and valve cover used on the 1954/59 223 is different than the cylinder head and valve cover used on the 1960/64 223.

1954/59 valve cover attaches to the head with two studs that pass thru the center of the valve cover, acorn nuts retain it in place.

1960/64 valve cover is retained to the head with (8) 5/16" -18 x 5/8" hex head bolts located around the perimeter of the valve cover.

1954/64 223 exhaust manifold is very prone to cracking. There are none available NOS, used manifolds without cracks are very hard to find.

This manifold was also used on 1954/64 Passenger Cars.

I have a spare 223 engine and transmission. My rebuilt engine isn't running yet. May be a while before it is and I don't want to sell my spare till it is. How big a hurry are you to get it? Where do you live? Willing to pay for the magnaflux to see if it is worth anything?
