I just sold my 2002 F150 and it looks like I'm entering the world of Super Duty. I'll need to throw a question or two out to all you experienced super duty owners. It hasn't been since my 1986 Toyota 4x4 that I've had manual locking hubs on a truck. I understand the purpose of the manual hubs on modern Super Duty trucks, and how they serve as a back-up to the auto lock feature. But I've been wondering about those hubs... Is there any dashboard indication that a manual hub has been thrown? Assuming no, what would happen if someone spun just one of your hubs, and left the other one alone, without you knowing? Would driving around that way do any harm?

    not on the indicator.
as for one locked hub, the passenger side hub on all my trucks have been locked since i got them.
when i need 4X4 i jump out, lock the driver side hub and pull the shifter in gear.
the only thing it will do i reduce fuel mileage a little.
my 88 now has 495,000 miles on it, with a good 400,000miles with the passenger hub locked.
and i have not replaced any of the front hubs except for the ones on the 2002 because one was broken.
