This is a first for me. My 2008 SuperCrew 5.4 V8 3V motor was replaced at 160,000 miles. A motor with 68,000 miles on it was used and it was warranty provided. One year and about 13,000 miles later I need another motor. Three mechanics all said the same thing. I just was curious as to why would the intake manifold burn up/melt away on one side?

Perhaps an intake valve leak allowing burning air fuel into the intake tract. Also, if you've ever tried the "Seafoam" treatment (which is a bad idea), this can cause this. If it runs slightly lean which makes the heads hotter, and it idles for very long periods of time, that could cause it. Its really hard to know for certain without seeing it.
