    Hello,
I just recently acquired my truck and I'm trying to confirm details of the engine in the truck.

The previous owner believed the engine in the truck was a Y-292. I checked the engine casting number and it says ECG 9425 B. This was the engine that was in the truck when it was found in a field in Southern CO in 2010. We do not know how long it sat in that field.

I cross referenced to data posted on ford-y-block site and the data sheet says "ECG" is a 272 V8. It also says that that engine is in cars/trucks from 1955-1957.

Would anyone know what engine(s) came in the 1953 Ford F100? The y-block website says 1953 were 6 cylinder.

Logic would tell me that based on this information, the original owner swapped the engine at some point.

The emblem on the front grille says V8 on it.

Thanks for any clarification and guidance you can provide.

    Sincerely,
    Victor

That's not the original engine. Your truck came with a flathead V8 (or a 6 cylinder) and the Y block engines started in 1954. Good luck with your project!

    agree with above,if that truck is really a 53 it was built with a inline flathead 6 of 215 inches ,or 239 inch 8ba flathead ,Y block came out in 54 as a 239 inch, went to 272 & 292 & 312 inches later ,your ECG 9425 B.is a 1957

Yeah, the Ford Truck Red Book confirms as well.

Thank you very much for providing these details. The mid fifty site looks to be a good source for parts as well. The VIN plate was preserved, and I took a look at that as well and I read that the fourth character designated the engine and it translated to this:
    • R (Engine Code) - L-Head 8 cylinder 239 CID (Flathead)
Thanks for confirming the year this current engine was built. I appreciate your help.

Thank you. I had read references to that book, was not sure if I needed to buy it or not.

One additional point, you stated it's an 8BA, in reading through the document it would have been an 8RT that being the truck designation?
