    At least new to the forum. I have been a Ford guy all of my 69 yrs and at this time I own a 1963 Falcon Futura convertible and a recently purchased 1963 F100. The F100 is all stock with a 223 6 cup engine and three on the tree. The truck has only 53,000 miles on it and has only had a paint job done on it. It has never had any body work or patching done to it. It has no rust other than surface rust under the truck. Only thing none stock is an aluminum radiator just installed. I am thinking about changing gears in the rear. It has a 389 set in it now and I would like to put in a 350 to lower rpm's on the highway. I will be looking forward to communicating with other Ford truck owners and sharing knowledge about these trucks.

    3.50 ratio should get you to 60-65 comfortably on that truck before you start seeing the RPM too high. I wouldn't go taller than 3.50 on a stock engine though, the acceleration will be lackluster, with the engine rated at 145 HP factory new (and that's before power train loss).

    60-65 is about where we like to run when cruising. Truck will run that ok but I would like to see the rpm's a little lower. I figured a 350 set of gears would be about right. Won't be hauling anything more than a cooler, lawn chairs, and a shade tent.

    Sounds like either trips to the beach... or car/truck shows. You oughta be fine then with 3.5

    Old school Engine RPM percolator;
    Check my math.... I'm guessing at your drive radius,
    and the digitals on my slide rule were wore down by '73
    There are calculators out there too, but they're kinda girly.

    REAR DRIVE RADIUS, AXLE CENTER TO GROUND. ??=14.5"
    CURCM= 91" (PI X DIA)
    65 MPH = 343,200'/HR,
    65 MPH = 4,118,400"/HR , /60=
    =68,640 "/MIN, /91" =
    =754.28 AXLE RPM, X DIFF RATIO = ENG RPM
    IN 3RD GEAR (1:1)

    x 3.0= 2262 ENG RPM
    X 3.25= 2451 ENG RPM
    X 3.5= 2640 ENG RPM
    X 3.89= 2934 ENG RPM

    Thanks Rollin298. Looks like it will drop about 300 rpm. I think that will work out ok.

    Thanks Seabiscuit. Glad to be here.

    I will be going to a couple of swap meets this month and was wondering if anyone had any idea what a good set of used 350 gears were going for these days.

    9" 3.50-1 first offered in 1965 F100's, the AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate is 08 = 1965/79 F100, 1975/79 F150.

    Probably in the classified section of the forums would be the best bet.
