I have a 92 F250 4x4. The shifter lever won't go into park. It wouldn't go into reverse yesterday. I tightened up the 2 screws down by the steering column. I can't get it into park and reverse is a little tough. What other adjustments need to be made to get the shifter into the park position? Thanks for your help.

there is an adjustment down on the transmission shift arm.
remove the cable connector from the transmission, put shifter in park, transmission in park, and put cable back on and test.

I'm not sure how to tell if the transmission is in park at the transmission. I would appreciate suggestions on how to get it right. How does it come undone while driving through town and slow country roads? The way it looks like it's all in the cab. I tightened the 2 T-30 screws and was able to get reverse but won't go into park. This all happened yesterday, just when I stopped and wouldn't go into reverse.

Is the part that's behind the metal held down by the T-30 screws supposed to push in and out behind the metal?

The shifter won't go to park. It just wobbles around. When I get it into reverse the indicator isn't lining up with the R , it lines up with neutral or park.

once you chock the wheels and remove the shift cable from the transmission the shifter should go into park.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

It didn't work. It has to be in the cab some place

How do I get the shifter indicator to line up with the letters? I can get into reverse, but the pointer isn't on the letter R. I can't get it into park.

there is an adjuster on the string that goes to the shift tube.
when you tried adjusting the cable, did you also loosen the two torks screws before trying to put the shifter in park?

if all else fails, you may have to open the column and inspect the shift tube to see what is blocking it from going into park.

I tightened the 2 torque screws before I tried the cable adjustment. That got it so I could shift into reverse. What needs to be done with the string adjustment? I appreciate your time and help. Thanks.

nothing actually until the shifter is working as it should. because every time something is adjusted on the shifter the indicator will go off again.

Thanks. The indicator has been a little off for some time. Sometimes I would put it into drive, it would be in 2nd gear, so I'd have to bump it up a little to get into drive. The whole time this was happening, the pointer stayed on the letter D. This happened before I adjusted the torque screws. What do I need to do to find the solution to this situation?

The shifter moves so the indicator is past the letter P but doesn't go into park. Where do I adjust the cable on the shifter to correct it.
