My rear glass seal leaks a bit .Sealed it with some silicone , temporary .
I want to upgrade to a slider .
I hear that a slider and seal will work from a 96 and back .
Is this true ? I plan on going to a salvage yard to source a slider .
I may even find a good seal ... Done it on Chevy's over the years ...
all the tricks for them are old hat for me . I know what will interchange on them , and mods needed .
I do not have the Ford followers in my area , so little is known about swaps and such .

You have to use the 1973/79 weatherstrip with the 1980/96 sliding back window kit (that replaced the original 1973/79 kit).

D3TZ-1042084-A .. Back Glass Weatherstrip-Use with or without Sliding Back Window / Reproduced by Carpenter.

    Applications: 1973/79 F100/350.
    -------------------------------------
    F4TZ-15422B30-B (replaced D3TZ-10422B30-A - EOTZ-10422B30-A - E2TZ-10422B30-A) .. Sliding Back Window Kit / Obsolete

Last MSRP: $317.69 / Dealer net cost: $222.38.

    Applications: 1973/96 F100/350.

CUCCI FORD in East Dundee IL has 1 = 847-551-3300.

GATEWAY FORD in Ponchatoula LA has 1 = 985-386-7790.

    UNION CITY FORD-LINCOLN in Union City TN has 1 = 800-844-4090 / 731-885-8833.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    E2TZ-10422B30-A = ENGLAND FORD in Hinton OK has 1 = 405-542-3242.

This will probably be cheaper than the F4TZ kit, since it was replaced in 1994.

Since the sliding back window kit was an accessory, it could not be returned to FoMoCo for credit.

So these dealers are STUCK with them. Their prices may be less than the MSRP or less than the original dealer cost, call and ask.

Just a note, you still need this same rubber with an aftermarket window

John, if you look around, one of the dealers may even have the entire rear sliding window. I broke the one (side glass) in my 85 F-150 and was able to buy the entire assembly for $150.00 including the rubber. The side glass was was $225.00. It did not make any sense. Make sure you clean the metal lip with glass prep, fix any rust, clean the weep holes and use a good grade of non-hardening silicone as you use the rope to install it. Then install the security bead. Have fun, it will make you cuss until you figure out the rope (pull it from the inside).

I have done glass work in the past , many makes .
It does make me cuss !
Easiest I did was my 78 510 Datsun windshield . My 73 bug was the next easiest .

Ever spent several hours cutting out a windshield in perfect condition and just as you get ready to lift it out, hear that pop and have it to explode in your hands? It will just about make you cry. I watched a buddy cry when he broke the windshield in his (I believe) 58 Crown Vic. We were getting ready to paint it when he decided to remove the glass. He had to have the glass specially made and it cost him big time. No one did the blue tint fade anymore.

I already "looked around" .. found 4 of the dealer installed sliding back glass window kits at 4 different Ford dealers. See post #2.

And, there were no 1958 Crown Victoria's, these were only offered in 1955 & 1956.

Bill, it may have been a 56. It had round big taillamps. It was a long time ago, I really do not remember what year it was. It was a beautiful car after painting it and putting all the goodies back on the body. One thing I do remember about it was that it had a smoke type glass on top of the speedo if that helps to establish a year. Also, it had a weird sloping z pattern of chrome on the sides that he deleted as he wanted a solid color car. It did not have the glass roof or the chrome bar across the top. I seem to remember a Fairlane emblem on it somewhere but it was not put back on.

Pretty Car but my buddies car did not look like that. It was bigger with a flatter roof and flat deck. I am going to have to find a similar pic and then find out what it was.

Ford pictured in post #9 is a 1953 Club Coupe.

All 1955 Ford cars have the glass mask above the speedo, but if the car was a Hardtop (H/T) but did not have the "basket handle" roof, it was a Victoria H/T, not a Crown Victoria.

1955: Crown Vic pics at left, Victoria pic at right lower.

Bill, the car had flat fenders on the top, not round. Does that help?

    Edited:

Bill, I found it. But the listing under the pic confused me. It was a 1959, but listed as a Galaxy 500 Fairlane. Did this animal exist?

Galaxie introduced mid model year 1959, so there's Galaxie/Fairlane 500 H/T's, 2/4 door sedans and a ragtop. Prior, these cars are Fairlane 500's.

1967 full sized Ford's, especially the Galaxie XL's and LTD's were, IMO...a beautiful car. Best looking since the 1963 Galaxie 500XL's. No full sized Ford since, IMO...has looked as nice.

Sold in Europe as a midsize based off the Cortina, it was spelled Galaxy, in the US, it was spelled Galaxie.

Cortina was another car that FoMoCo imported to the US, mechanics hated to work on it.

When I was working the back parts counter at Ralph Williams Ford in Encino, one mechanic said to me: "Do you know how I spell Cortina?"

    "S-H-*-T-B-O-X!"
