What holds the horizontal plastic panel in the middle of the tailgate of the 92 f250? Mine is holding on both ends, but not in the middle. What goes in the holes in the tailgate to hold it on?

If I under stand your question correctly, you are taking about the Tailgate Finish Trim Mounting bracket. Looks like

I'm not sure about the piece you are showing me. There's a plastic horizontal panel with another horizontal panel between the outside one and the tailgate. I can see 4 holes in the metal tailgate, that I figured there must be some kind fastener holds the 2 plastic panels to the metal tailgate.

Your talking about the silver piece with FORD at the lower right corner?

Yes. I'll get some pictures of them tomorrow and post them here. Thank you for your help.

Should be the same on your 92 as it is on my 96. There were changes after 96 I think. I’d run out and take a look but I’m up in the High Cascades Mountains for another week and a half and the 96 is 200 miles away. I do know mine is loose very similar to what you described. I looked at it a couple of times and it seems like some clips needed reconnected to a mounting rail behind it. I keep getting side tracked & not following up on it since there is no danger of it falling off.

The plastic bracket that Seabiscuit has shown fits into the metal panel, and there it screws onto the tailgate in the center and there are nuts on the outside lip that holds the trim panel on. The plastic trim panel has plastic tits that are mashed down with a hot iron so they mushroom out and hold that trim panel to the larger one. Those mushroom tits and the long plastic ones on the bracket that holds everything to the metal tailgate brake often causing the trim panel to be loose in the center. Both my 1991 and 1996 F150s have done this, and i have given up on trying to fix them again. They brake if the tailgate is dropped down and hits the stop cables.
