Just ordered 2022 SD F250 cc 7.3 10 speed and 3.55 axle. After researching the net only conclusion is there were issues with the 10 speed transmission in year 2020. Has Ford got the issues worked out yet? I’m wondering if I should have ordered another F250 with 6.2 and 6 speed transmission. I have a 2011 F250 set up this way with 100,000 miles. I’ve been very happy with the reliability and mpg towing and hwy driving. ( 9-10 towing, 14-17 empty hwy ).

I have a 2020 6.7L with the 10 speed and haven't had an issue. FYI, the 10 speed in the 7.3 is the same transmission as in the diesel. Also had the 10 speed in my 2019 F-150 with 5.0L and never had an issue with that one either. The SuperDuty 10 speed is much beefier than the F-150 model.

Interesting, I have a 2020 10 sp with the 10 sp. I hadn't heard of any problems with the transmission. So far mines great.

The dealer talked me into the 7.3 Godzilla and 10 speed. He said I would have more power and just as good or better fuel mileage as 6.2 . I’ve owned a 2001 SD F250 with 6.8 V10 as well as my current 2011 SD F250 with 6.2. Both were great pickups and motors. I’m hoping the new 2022 F250 7.3 will be the same.

The research I have done tells me the 10 speed problems were in the F-150, it is a differant transmission. Mine is a 200, bought in. Nov. pull a 2o21 36’. Pulls it like a dream. Decent mileage actually a little better than I had hoped for, less that I wish. For me it makes sense over the diesel.

I have the 2020 6.7l w 10 speed. I have had no problems with it. I tow a fifth wheel camper. My total weight is 26,000. I know everyone that is over GCWR and every rating. Ive ordered the new F350 to bring those numbers closer to rating. Anyway, truck did great. Averaged 9.8 mpg driving 2100 miles (stopping every 2 hours for baby) I was actually getting 13 mpg when at highway speeds. Obviously all the starting and stopping hurth the average mileage.
Oh yeah I have the 3.31. Which I ordered the new truck before I had pulled with this one. I ordered 3.55 but Ill tell you with that transmission I had zero problem pulling. It will be interesteing to see how much the mileage suffers as a result.

W/O trailer I get about 16. My average speed is 43 mph (which means I drive real fast) anyway just some numbers for everyone to go over.

Let me clarify about the diesel. IKNOW the diesel pulls better than my 7.3… it better,it’s supposed to! Actually I’m really not a huge ford guy anyhow but I really like the new thinking ford has with the gasser. Just my opinion but the eco-boost tech is what pushed me from ford to RAM back in 2012. This yr I knew I needed a 3/4 ton truck, didn’t want the diesel, read up on the 7.3 and went that way.
Probably if I was towing 15,000+ on a regular basis like 2-3 times a week I might feel differant. I know that 6.7 is a heck of an engine.and gets a mile or 3 better mileage than my 7.3. But….almost $10,000 more is a lot of money too.

Yeah can buy a lot of fuel for $10k! I hear what you are saying. So I am down in Louisiana and with the hurricane there is not much fuel around. So far I am lucky and am able to find fuel. Oh yeah, anyway I am not driving as heavy footed as normal. Over the last 2 days going to and from work I am getting AVG of 20.2!! Couldn't believe it. I am kind of second guessing the 3.55 on the new truck. I am tempted to call in and change to 3.31 I am not becasue it may be 2023 before I get my truck at this rate

Nice to hear from you buddy!! That is AWESOME mileage!! I'd say if I lightened up on the throttle (don't see that happening though LOL) I'd be lucky to get within 4 mpg of that!! Definitely not saying I'm right about the 7.3 vs the diesel but it's what I did!!! You be careful buddy!

We just returned from a 7500 mile trip out west. Average mileage towing 8300 travel trailer at 65mph was 13.4mpg. However I was getting 20.3 mpg without the trailer in the mountains at 65mph. That with a 6.7L diesel. And an FYI, diesel is less expensive in Washington state than 87 octane and higher gasoline.

Yeah out West I think that is due to CARB. There are only like 9 or 13 (Cant remember) refineries out there and they all produce fuel to meet CARB requirements. Where as I guess they don't have a different requirement for Diesel yet. Other than Certified Clean Idle for Heavy trucks.

I grew up out in Washington, I miss the country but not all the government and taxes.

As for mileage while towing not sure if I mentioned. I weigh 26,000 combined. I averaged 9.5 which included all my starting and stopping (18 month old) every 150 - 200 miles. I was getting much like you described 12-14 doing 75 flat ish road.
