Hi All, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
The Past. The pic in avatar was when putting my 66 back together 13-14 yrs ago and that was 10 yrs after I took it apart. The truck described here on bottom of my posts. All blasting, prep and finish paint done in pieces, by a body shop, then transported home by me, for reassembly. It could have been a trailer queen but I said you know for what I put into this, I could have gone and bought a brand new pickup. So I decided it would be my everyday driver with every effort to keep it off the road and away from sand and salt in the winter. Well got caught a couple time or more hear and there and had to drive in winter weather to get home. So now apart again for another Frame Off.
The Future. This time it will only be for cruising, trips to relatives, grocery shopping. No dump runs, no hauling firewood, no leaning against with a belt buckle, you get the picture. Truck is going nowhere, each time registration renewal it is beneficiaried to one of my sons. So.... I miss 4WD. Over the yrs I've had 1967 Scout V8 4X4, 1959 F-250 4X4, 1960 F-100 4X4, 1967 F-100 4X4, and a bunch of mongrel clunker 2WD's. I WANT a 1966 F-100 4X4, BUT I'm not going for a 20 to 40 thousand dollar truck that some one has put back to showroom days. I want to put a truck together myself for my needs.
    So the Questions.....
1- Was the first F-100 4X4 with coil spring front suspension, 1965 or 1966??
2- Would the F-100 4X4 frame from 1965-66 be the same to 1972 or when the bump sides became dent sides?
3- Did the first 65-66, 4X4, 4 speed trucks have a transfer case that was just IN and OUT and no Hi and Low range?
4- Will the 65-66 cab bolt right on to the F-100 4X4 frame to 1972 or last of bump side era?? I under stand that cab has to be with hump in floor for the 4 speed.

    Thanks to All, Cap

Wow! 141 views as of now and NO answers.

Hey if I stepped on your toes somewhere along the line, I apologize, it was not intentional.

Even if you can answer 1 of the 4 questions, that would help a lot.

    Thanks

Not all views are registered users, many are guests who haven't registered or search engine crawlers. If it's anything for other folks like it's been for me, I'm just now getting back to speed after the holidays.

    1. The first year of the twin i-beam front suspension was 1965.

    2. For any given wheelbase, the frame is the same from 65-72.

    3. If I recall, the 4 speeds all had the Dana 21 which is either 2 wd or 4d, but no hi/low

    4. Yes

    1961/66: Two different types of cabs, two different front suspensions. 1965 F100/250 4WD has a cab step, 1965 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD does not have a cab step.

    Plus, 1965 F100/250 4WD, 1966 F250 4WD uses a completely different engine/transmission mounting system w/a unique bell housing than 1965/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD

Normally I would have answered the OP's questions the first day they were posted, but I've been MIA for three months...

Hello Bill. On your MIA, hoping you are in good shape and doing well. Thank You for your answers/input.

1- So for a 4X4 CHASSIS, I should be looking only for a, 1966 to 1972 F-100 with coil spring suspension.

2-Cab can be 65 to 72, 2WD, with 4 speed transmission so as to have the hump in the floor for the 4 speed. (note, at home I have a 1966 F-250 cab, 2WD, BUT it's a 3 speed with a flat floor and of no use). Would you call this a third type of cab??

4- You say NO as to the 65-66 cab bolting on to the 66 to 72 4X4 frame. As long as the 65-66 cab is from a 2 WD, 4 speed, that would be my correct choice to fit the 66-72, F-100, 4X4 Frame?? If still NO, could you elaborate?? THANKS AGAIN for bearing with me.
