Today I made some progress for my '56 Panel, if not actually on it. I removed the 8.75 Chrysler rearend from the bent & broken frame that was under the '56 pick-up that I got hit head-on in 3 years ago.

The rear had the right gear and did well behind the 500 Caddy and Turbo 400 transmission in the truck. I had switched out the punkin that was in it, a 3.24 I believe, for a 2.76. Next I will extract the Caddy and prepare it to go into the Panel. I will need to use my spare 400TH transmission because the one in the truck was busted in the wreck.

I don't know diddly squat about Chrysler axles. What advantages/disadvantages does it have over a GM, or Ford 9"?

Chrysler rears are popular with the local drag racers. I'm told they break 9" Fords then swap to Chryslers, with the same HP and no more breakage. The Chryslers have "drop out" gear sets, like Fords, so gear ratio changes are quicker and easier that GM rears. Mine is not "posi". The brakes are drum but are large enough to get the job done. Parts interchange for several years.
