Under dash knocking sound

    2014 f150 lariat 4x2. When either door is opened or closed a loud knocking sound occurs for 15-30 seconds then stops. The motor is off. I stuck my head under the steering wheel and found the sound coming from a black box with a arm and connecting rod coming out of it. Its located directly forward of center console. The knocking is so load it vibrates the box and you can feel the force if you touch the box. What is this box with a lever on it?

    Its the temperature mode door actuator and it's used to switch the HVAC temperature "door" between hot and cold. Its failed and needs to be replaced.
