They came out with these in/around 98 as a sort of a "go between" from the OBS to the Super Duty years. They first came out as the F250LD I think then switched to the 7700 designation as the Super Duty started to roll out in early 99. 7 lug axles and slightly better payload than a stock F150 if I recall right.

Seems like it would be hard to find parts. Did Ford change the head design on the 5.4 by 2000? Really don't want to deal with spitting spark plugs.

I think so, but I have also never had issues with either of my 5.4L's from 98 spitting plugs either. I seem to think there are a lot of parts for those trucks floating around.

A buddy of mine owns a 7700 . He used it for his business until he could no longer work . VA is jacking him around now ...
No issues with his truck other than normal stuff . I think his son has it now . I would not worry about buying one myself .

The head redesign was done in 2003 regarding the spark plugs. I have over 160K on my '01 and *knock on wood* I have not had any problems with the plugs.

Bill was correct, the F-250LD/7700 was available just for those couple of years.

    Run, don't walk.

Run to buy? Why do I feel like I'm sticking my neck out buying this? The odometer won't light so the miles are unknown. And I can't find out how to price it online.

No way I would buy that truck.
Call the parts house, and try to buy a caliper for it.
Then call someone and try to get a steel wheel, or even a mag wheel.
    The truck is an orphan
There was a need for something to hold the line over when it closed in 97, and re-opened in 99 with the super duty's

I agree. And to go along with the quote in your signature, every time someone tries to idiot-proof anything, the world builds a better idiot.
