All but one we had redone had multiple problems ... Several never pulled off the rack!

Even putting the JY ones in is a crap shoot.
    They are a weak link.

Make sure to service the transmission in Peggy's 'Sploder Ken

I have never had the nerve to go with a J-yard auto-transmission...............Luck NEVER falls on my side.

I got a used 5r55 with 20k on it installed for $1100. It came with a 1 year warranty. My transmission guy installed a kit to stop the valve body problem. I'm lucky. I know a good transmission guy. He did a complete performance build on my Ram transmission for $1500. He replaced everything in it & rebuilt the trashed overdrive unit. It has a Superior shift improvement kit, heavy duty front & rear bands. new clutches, solenoids, pumps ,synthetic fluid & torque converter. It shifts quick & firm with no slipping. the other shops in my area wanted $500 more for a stock rebuild

    Just a thought
While the transmission is out, you going to have a look at the back timing chains?

I would pull the motor to do the chains and guides .
I did not know how hard a used mixer was to find . I need to do something, wife's sick of our loaner car!

Well , I gave up trying to find a used unit . They were too costly for the mileage and warranty .
I have a Jasper being delivered Monday . I will take pics of the R&R . Being a redressed Explorer , someone
    may need some pointers .

How hard is it to rebuild your own transmission? Is it as intimidating as it looks?

I have talked to transmission guys that will not touch them ! A former Ford transmission man I know will not touch them ... He owns his own shop now !
    Something fishy about them .

I have tried 3. I have failed at 3. LOL
    I now know my limits.
I can troubleshoot, modify a valve body, change oil and filter, change solenoids.

    anything above that.....NOT
