    dfron, thanks getting back.
last pic top of tank by large hole about 1:00, looks like Ford parts or engineering #D 7TA............... D 7 being 1977 says correct time frame for your 78 truck, yet all pics from BKW shedding no light. Puzzler.

adding pics, struck out at LMC, Bronco Graveyard, Green Sales - Dennis Carpenter (possibly large seal part# E1AZ-9072-B , but sale rep does not believe so, I ordered one anyway waiting on it),

Every Tank I see the rubber fill hose slips over a nipple that is a part of the tank (Metal or plastic) and is held tight by a hose clamp - That is not my tank. LOL of course...

E1AZ-9072-B is a 1981 part number, so it's not listed for any 1970's truck.

    D7TZ-9072-A
.. Fuel Tank Filler Pipe Seal / Obsolete ~ 3 available NOS

1977 F100/350 Styleside with aft axle fuel tank.

1978/79 F100/350 Use with Midship & Aft Axle Fuel Tanks except F350 w/flat and stake beds.

    1978/79 E250/350 Cut-Away.

    The following have 1 each: KAMA OBSOLETE PARTS - 763-434-0123 / MCDONALD OBSOLETE PARTS - 812-359-4965 / OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS - 229-686-5101.

KAMA - ebay store they already told me they didn't have the part.... sent emails to McDonald and Obsolete parts. may have the right part from dennis carpenter if E1AZ-9072-B is the 3Inch seal - so if the D7TZ-9072-A is the vent tube 1 1/2" seal that would be awesome - I'll try and make some calls this week to hopefully put this poop to bed!

Did you ever figure this out?

I have a similar plastic tank that came factory on 1979 Ford F-250 Explorer I just inherited from my grandfather. It was leaking from the filler tube/tank meeting point. I dropped the tank, cleaned it up, rebent the metal tube holder rings, and dropped a generous amount of rtv in the areas where the gasket used to be. This is second time doing this. It’s leaking again. I’m also having a fuel feed issue from the rear tank. It has the bullcrap EFI system on it, which is also causing me some grief. Ordered a block off plate and plan to remove all efi, but can’t find a thorough tutorial to do so.

Has anyone found a replacement tank? All tanks I’m looking at online do not seem to line up. I’m at the point where I’m ready to just buy both new tanks and a fuel injection kit, but can’t find the correct side tank replacement. Also, what other parts and pitfalls will I need to watch out for when converting to fuel injection?
Thanks for any info you can provide! The diagrams above helped out quite a bit, but where do I order the parts? None of the usual places have had what I’m Looking for.

I just installed a plastic tank in my 76 F250 similar to the one you have pictured. It is a diesel tank from a late model F450. Fits perfect between chassis. Parts are available online

@pete - can you share with me the part# supplier for the F450 diesel tank ? thnx in advance

Tank was from salvage yard and parts to repair I got from rock auto. Salvage yard drills hole in all fuel tanks but a plug threads easily into plastic tank and seals tight

rock auto doesn't even list parts for 1989 ford f-450? i was hoping for pics of the tank you installed.... all the replacement plastic tanks I see have the plastic fill nipple molded onto tank... did you call rock auto and give them that vin# - so confused... ready to pull trigger on metal replacement

You are correct about rock auto. The vent parts I ordered were identical to the 350 tank.
Here’s the pics. Temporary install until I get new flat bed, but it gets me from point a to point b
