What Ford vehicle used torsion bars...and for what purpose?

What was the first US car to have torsion bar suspension? Hint: It wasn't Chrysler.

Leyland may have been the first to use torsion bar suspension in the US .

Underslung cars were a step away from the normal autos of the time way back when . There were different approaches to lowering an automobiles height .

1955 Packard was the first US car to come with torsion bar suspension, and Packard's system was front and rear.

The rear torsion bars were 9' long!

A self leveling electric motor used with the rear bars would keep the car level at all times and people could raise the car up or lower it down via a switch under the dash.

JWC 3: British Leyland never sold a car in the US that was assembled here, all were imported from England.
